A choker is a close-fitting necklace worn around the neck. They can be adorned in a variety of ways, including with sequins, studs, or a pendant. They have been around for thousands of years, first gracing the world's earliest civilizations. Often made with gold or lapis, the necklaces were thought to be protective and instilled with special powers. Historically, they were associated with high fashion. However, in the late 19th century, a plain thin red, or black ribbon choker had ties to prostitution. In Native American culture, chokers functioned as a form of protection for tribal warriors, guarding the jugular and deflecting arrows from the neck in battle. Also, it was thought to protect the voice and provide great speaking abilities to the wearer. The bone-choker would guide the warrior to speak the truth directly from the heart.
Braid is the symbol of strength and unity. The term French braid is used on the human head because of the various lengths of hair involved. French braid starts with three small sections of hair near the crown of the head, which are then braided together toward the nape of the neck, gradually adding more hair to each section as it crosses in from the side into the center of the braid structure. These are actually a simple three strand braid where all the hair is initially divided into three equal sections, where one outside strand across the center strand and then pass the other one across the center one.
Horsehair is the long, coarse hair growing on the manes and tails of horses. Horsehair can be very stiff or very fine and flexible. Mane hair is generally softer and shorter than tail hair. The texture of horsehair can be influenced by the breed and management of the horse, including natural conditions such as diet or climate.
Why use a Lobster Claw Clasp? It is the safest, most secure, durable necklace or bracelet clasp on the planet. Lobster clasps are named as such because of their "pinching" mechanism, and they are often shaped like a lobster's claw. They have a tiny spring in its mechanism that keeps the arm closed until you push on the lever. It is easily opened or closed by holding the small lever, usually with a fingernail long enough to apply (which is great, because you can put your own jewelry with no Problem). They are smooth to the touch and they won't snag or catch your clothing or sweaters.
